Welcome to this site in tribute of pirate station Radio Jackie. Who's demise in 1985 was a sad loss to the residents of South West London.

The good news is that it certainly wasn't all for nothing, as the station now reigns supreme once again in South West London. And legally too, having procured the licence to broadcast in the area from Thames Radio, who failed to win the hearts of the South West Londoners after being awarded the licence in the late 1990's.

The memories portrayed here the story of those pirate radio years, between 1969 and 1985. With a spirit of adventure predominating, the station was to change the face of radio in the UK forever.

Please feel free to explore the links on the left, after which you should have a reasonably good idea of the events that happened during the stations original 16 year reign. There's about 20 minutes of reading material here, and if the story is new to you, it's best read in the order that it is set out on the left hand side.

For the benefit of those with no knowledge of Jackie, it is a fact that the original pirate station closed down in February 1985 (with more than a little help from the DTI), and much of the material here relates to the stations final days and hours, with some previously unpublished photo's, and some jingles and commercials that have not seen the light of day for over 20 years.

Although this site tells a sad story, the good news is that the station is back up and broadcasting again. And this time it has a licence! To visit the station's current website, click here.
